COSTA RICA

Nestled between Nicaragua and Panama, the rugged rainforest and pristine coastlines of Costa Rica make the country an explorer’s paradise.  Teeming with good coffee, amazing food and secluded swimming holes, it’s no wonder this Central American country is a favoured escape of the rich and famous.

Who’s been spotted there?

From Kim Kardashian and Beyonce, Britney Spears to Chris Hemsworth; Costa Rica attracts a diverse mix. And when sweeping, lush rainforest meets crystal clear tropical waters it’s easy to see why – there’s something for everyone.

Where to sleep?

Look, hotels are great, but half of Costa Rica’s charms lay off the beaten track. So why not live local in your very own Airbnb?

From villas with sparkling infinity pools (click here):

To treehouse bungalows with picturesque views (click here):

To modern zen retreats (click here):

You’re sure to find something unique, with more character than any hotel room.

Where to find the best coffee?

Considered one of the world’s premier coffee sources, it’s easy to find a good brew among the fertile hills and valleys here. If you’re looking to sample some of the region’s finest from the comfort of a café, head to Kalú Café Cafeoteca.

Where to play?

In addition to its pristine coastline and lush rainforests, Costa Rica has a thriving adventure tourism industry. To take in its rich jungles, Zip Lining is the activity of the day. Head up into the canopy, take in the view and soar above waterfalls.

Where to shop?

No good trip would be complete without a spot of shopping, and Paseo de las Flores to the north of the capital San Jose, is the place to go. A large shopping mall, it combines well-known brand names with smaller boutiques as well as larger department stores.

Where to eat?

A must-try is the esteemed Grano de Oro, a fine dining restaurant found in a boutique hotel of the same name. It serves up both European and Costa Rican dishes, for those who want to be a little more adventurous.

Where to drink?

When in Costa Rica, do as the Costa Rican’s do and head out to see the jazz. Jazz Café consistently serves up high-quality live music and top-notch cocktails.

Where to swim?

When it comes to soaking in the sun, you’re spoilt for choice. But to soothe weary muscles after a day of exploring there’s really only one. Take advantage of the natural hot springs that are littered around the Arenal Volcano. Our favourite is Tabacon Hot Springs.

What to wear?

Poolside style: pants: Roxy; swimsuit: Zingiber; bag: Rebecca Minkoff; sandals: James Smith; sunglasses: Enki; Oil: Hawaiian Tropics

Ciao!
